Beerjing

On Thursday, October 29, DXCEL and City Weekend concluded their month-long “Beerjing” promotion at Danger Doyle’s. As a new member of the DXCEL Beijing team, I was pouring beers for everybody alongside our regional manager, Simon Pendergast. In addition to the beers promoted all month, we also poured several beers that DXCEL does not usually carry. Some were very localized imports, or used very unusual ingredients. These included Young’s Double Chocolate Stout, Well’s Banana Bread Beer, Chalky’s Bite by Sharps (uses fennel seed), and Marston’s Oyster Stout. Amongst the attendees were Beijing Boyce and City Weekend staff, as well as the winners of the Beerjing “Passport”, where patrons had to collect stamps from participating venues all month long. (Update: Thanks to Jim Boyce for the photos. Also, I have decided not to do a full write-up at this time. If anybody has any questions about the beers featured or that you see in the photos, please feel free to leave a comment/question or contact me directly.)

Parti-Gyle #2

Brewers Calls in the Lawyers. Is Anyone Buying This?

By now, it’s probably safe to say that we’re all accustomed to – though not necessarily comfortable with – the overlawyerization of American society. This is typically, and perhaps most visibly, demonstrated by corporations that seem to go out of t… [...]

New Year’s Resolutions

A new year is just around the corner and my enthusiasm for brewing is becoming obsessive. I’ve read enough about homebrewing to feel I’ve made significant advancement within the craft even though I’ve only brewed maybe a dozen beers. However, my latest beer is relatively superb for it’s cleanness, even if the recipe still needs tweaking. [...] [...]

The Celebrator Glass

I’ve written previously about the goat imagery associated with German Bock (the word applies to both the animal and the drink), and here’s more evidence the Germans take this linguistic connection fairly seriously. But in this case the Bavarian brewers… [...]

Imperial Mild…An example of innovation gone to far.

This Post article is another example of making beer that is neither good not refreshing. While I like hops as much as the next guy, it’s not suprising to me that the new cutting edge is making session beers or bring back older styles. [...]
