I’ve got brewing on my mind. In fact, I find that’s the case much of the time. I’ve caught the bug, bad, and it isn’t letting go. I see that as a good thing. After all, the result is delicious homebrew. Most recently, I brewed two batches about two weeks apart. The first was an organic Belgian-style golden strong ale based on the extract version of the recipe that won the organic brewing [...]

Capital Brewery’s Limited Release Autumnal Fire
Scratch the Midwest beer tasting tour, it just so happens that quite a few of the beers I tried happen to be from Wisconsin. So here goes one of my favorites from the tasting, Capital Brewery’s Limited Release Autumnal Fire.
Autumnal Fire is a rich dopplebock that has won several awards by Beverage Testing Institute World Beer Championships, GABF and North American Brewers Association.
Autumnal Fire pours a dark copper/amber color. It has the aroma of caramel malt, slightly burnt and hints of spice. It is a sweeter beer, not sweet beer, perhaps a hit of cherry, but it may also be the 7.8% ABV, there’s my guess.
I would pair this beer with desserts, and of course, sitting my the fire, and cozy up with a warm blanket.

Brewery closings: no trend here folks
Nine hundred and five breweries closed between 2000 and 2010, an average of a little over 82 a year. The numbers for 2011 aren’t in yet, so I couldn’t include them. Closings ran higher in the front half of those years, but in even the best of them, other than 2010, a brewery closed at [...] [...] Read more →

[...] Read more →
