För precis en vecka sedan kom en blivande ölnörd till världen. Han har redan fått lära sig om hembryggningens konster, torrhumlat en ipa, veta vad en pale ale, bitter, lambic och imperial stout är för något. Det är väl bara att vänta och se… [...]
I was invited to a tasting event for New Planet Beer on 8/5 in Boulder. New Planet is coming out with a Pale Ale later this month. We were given 4 different recipes to taste and rate. We tasted #2, #5, #41 and #530. I thought they were all very good b… [...]

When she needed to make what she described as “some major life changes,” Shannon Essa turned to beer — Italian craft beer. The result is Ms. Essa’s American tour company, Grape Hops, that offers trips to many of the up-and-coming microbreweries in Piedmont and Lombardy, along with more traditional wine and culinary adventures elsewhere in Italy [...] [...]

Brews news
I've been swamped at work, dealing with appeals, jury trials, and generally seeking justice in a crazy system. So, while some exciting things have been happening in this wonderful beer town called Ann Arbor, I haven't been writing about it. But today, I can finally catch a little time to mention a few items of interest. First of all, I'm writing this post right at Arbor Brewing, where Old Tjikko [...] Read more →

Lagunitas Lucky 13
I’m a particular fan of anniversary beers because breweries put the best of the best in these brews. Lagunitas does hoppy and high alcohol content very, very well. Their IPA and Censored are two of my favorite brews to drink. Being a huge fan of Lagunitas, I naturally had to try their Lucky 13th Anniversary Release.
Lucky 13 is a light copper color with a bold hoppy presence. It a bit of a citrus aroma with sweet malt flavors, perhaps a little smoky as well. It sure is a bite-you-in-the-butt hoppy beer. Hoppy and sweet = me likey. In a 22 ounce bottle at 8.5% ABV you can’t get away without having a lucky night!
