When you are the only pub in town with a captive audience you don’t need to try very hard. You could so easily rest on your laurels. But not so The Marisco Tavern, the only pub on Lundy. At the beginning of June we enjoyed a week’s holiday on this … [...]
IPAs, or India Pale Ales as people with enough time to utter five whole syllables call them, are an interesting kind of beer. Here’s my over-simplified (but mostly accurate) version of their history. Pale ales, and an ambition to build … Continue reading → [...]

So, after finally getting on google+ and playing with its features, I had a brilliant idea. I’d like to get enough SBR fans on google+ and do a group beer review in the hangout. We’d choose a beer to review, start a g+ hangout, and review it together. I’d think it be a great way [...] [...]
A great summer beer must be light. It must be refreshing. It must also be flavorful and interesting. In Colorado, where the winters are long and cold and the summers are sunny and beautiful, craft breweries have the summer beer dialed in. The five beer… [...]

I’m a particular fan of anniversary beers because breweries put the best of the best in these brews. Lagunitas does hoppy and high alcohol content very, very well. Their IPA and Censored are two of my favorite brews to drink. Being a huge fan of Lagunitas, I naturally had to try their Lucky 13th Anniversary Release.
Lucky 13 is a light copper color with a bold hoppy presence. It a bit of a citrus aroma with sweet malt flavors, perhaps a little smoky as well. It sure is a bite-you-in-the-butt hoppy beer. Hoppy and sweet = me likey. In a 22 ounce bottle at 8.5% ABV you can’t get away without having a lucky night!

Doorstep Brew – knocking on the door of a new opportunity?
In the past you couldn’t really earn your serious beer geek stripes until you started importing boxes of rare beers from obscure online beer merchants like Cracked Kettle and the Belgian Shop.
