I’ve finally managed to finish the last of my brother’s Hanukkah beer gift, the He’Brew Bittersweet Lenny’s R.I.P.A, a really strong rye ipa. I’ll admit, I should have drank this one earlier but I just never got around to it. At least I drank one of th… [...]
On April Fools Day earlier this monthI got thinking about trickster beer styles — and one that’s probably among the trickiest — and least understood — is the English Bitter. Mostly because it’s not bitter at a… [...]
Problems arise, however, when we attempt to create new categories for everything rather than defining them within the context of those style we already understand. Take the double IPA, for instance. A proper double IPA is a strong and very … Continue reading → [...]
I know duo hopped beers have been around for a long time, often masked by their name. Who could tell that ‘Wayfarer’ for example, is a beer made with amarillo and cascade ? There is no clue in the name, or on the pump clip. Nevertheless it is an e… [...]
When the beer poured out? Light sweet fruity aroma that reminds me of lychee with light citrusy hops aroma . How’s the taste? The entry is sweet flavour that remind me of lychee, very nice citrusy bitter hoppy from the hops, light carbonation. At 4.5%abv the beer doesn’t have much after taste. A well balance [...] [...]
I finally kegged the strawberry cider and the chocolate strawberry porter after about 4 weeks in the fermenter. Both have turned out nicely. The cider is nice and refreshing with a very smooth texture. It has a little more sweetness than the last batc… [...]

Roast duck is one my favourite food, too bad pubs don’t serve them. Chinese style roast duck have light herby taste with duck juicy taste and meat oil fragrance. For me this is a good pub snack, but I doubt it will happen anytime soon. For me bitter beer will sure compliment the taste of [...] [...]

Lagunitas Brewing Company’s Pale Ale New Dog Town is a pretty straight forward Pale Ale. Pouring golden straw in color with a thin white head, this beer has all the typical qualities you’ll find in a hearty American Pale Ale. It’s aroma is hoppy and… [...]
At 4.5% ABV, 1045° OG, Hornblower is brewed with pale, crystal, chocolate and amber malts. Challenger is used as the bittering hop with Target in the middle and EKG at the end. Light notes of berry fruits on the nose; decidedly sweet initial taste; bi… [...]
Yesterday I mentioned that today I would finally let the cat out of the bag with respect to my “other” project. I lied. As I previously alluded to, the news is that I’m being published in print for the first … Continue reading → [...]
Weedwacker from St. Arnold Brewing Company, Houston, TX is a beer in the hefeweizen family and displays lots of the good characteristics that you would expect of such. Bright yellow, slightly hazy and mildly clovey in the nose. There is a good dose of citrus in the taste, and light, perfumy spices continue to waft. [...] [...]

Brazil – Xingu Black Beer
Alright, so I don't usually review imported beers, but I'm making an exception with Xingu for two reasons: a) I really like black beer (aka schwarzbier, a dark lager style originating in Germany), and b) something about the six-pack caught my eye.... [...] Read more →

The more things change…
When you’re passionate about something, it’s easy to lose a bit of perspective. Anyone that supports a footy team will probably agree. Take, as an example, a dangerous tackle. If it is your favourite player that inflicts one upon the opposition, it somehow doesn’t seem quite as malicious as it would’ve had your favourite player been on the receiving end. It’s just that the more passionate you are about something, the more you lend yourself towards bias. You become so engrossed that you sometimes fail to appreciate the bigger picture. It’s not necessarily a bad thing, it just happens. This became a pertinent beer-related thought after rummaging through a secondhand book store and finding a copy of Mark Shield’s Beer Guide. According to the preface, Mark Shield was, at the time, Australia’s most circulated beer writer and his work appeared in many major national publications. This particular book was published in 1993 as an authoritative guide to Australian beer, containing a concise history of the industry and in which 250 local and imported beers are tasted and rated. In a pre-internet world, one can imagine such a resource to have been of great value to beer lovers. From a 2012 [...] [...] Read more →

Dear Diary: Badmouthed again
We’ve been badmouthed again. I’ve never been one to handle being badmouthed. I always take it to heart. I need to stop that. When I think of being badmouthed, the first memory that comes to mind are extreme exaggerations and falsehoods, the kinds of stories that kids tell to further put down an unpopular mate. It’s a feeling I knew well as a child. In sixth, seventh, eighth grade, there were put-downs so bad I just wanted to hide. To be alone rather than around two-faced Nellies. I never imagined put-downs would come ... [...] Read more →

The Oxford Companion to Beer: un libro da bere
[...] Read more →
